Are you a Victim of Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking happens if:

• You were deceived about the work you would do or the type of sexual services you are to provide; or
• Force or threats were used to make you enter or leave Fiji; or
• You are brought into Fiji or taken out of Fiji, and you have been put at substantial risk of exploitation where you have been taken; or
• The person arranging your travel into or out of Fiji has taken your passport and keeps it from you; or
• You are brought into Fiji and you are forced to work for someone who claims a debt against you and says you must work to pay off that debt; or
• You are brought into Fiji or taken out of Fiji and you are treated in an inhumane and degrading manner, or in a way that gives rise to a danger of death or serious harm; or
• You are younger than 18 years of age and have been brought into Fiji or taken out of Fiji to have sex with strangers, or to expose your body to strangers, or to work without pay. It will not matter if you are a sex worker. No one has the right to lie to you or threaten you or make you do anything you do not want to do.

Report Human Trafficking:

• If you have been forced or tricked or lied to about coming to, or leaving Fiji, then you are a victim of crime. Fiji’s laws will protect people from being brought into Fiji, or taken out of Fiji, if they have been lied to or if they have been forced into doing something they do not want to do.
• Fiji’s Police and Immigration officers will help you if you go to them with your complaint. You will not be punished; you will be treated with courtesy and respect.
• You can even make a complaint from outside of Fiji if you are a foreign national or a Fiji resident who has left Fiji but were a victim of human trafficking whilst here.
• Tell the Immigration Officer at the airport or sea port or go to a Police Post or Police Station near you. They will arrange for an interpreter in your own language.
