Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions
The Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions plays an advisory and a managerial role in governing and supervising the operation and legal functions of the ODPP on the instructions of the Director of Public Prosecutions. He provides timely advice on legal and policy matters to the DPP. The Deputy DPP also assists the DPP in developing and implementing strategic policies, presenting training lectures and providing mentoring to legal officers, police officers and members of other law enforcement agencies.
The Deputy DPP assists the DPP in the efficient management of the organisation and enforcement of the Criminal Laws of Fiji. The D/DPP is also required to prosecute high profile and sensitive cases that are of public interest as well as appeals in the High Court, Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court.
The current Deputy DPP is Mr John Rabuku.
Mr Rabuku has extensive criminal and civil litigation knowledge and experience as well as leadership expertise as he was previously the Acting DPP for the ODPP Fiji and has held the position of the DPP in the Republic of Nauru from 2017 to 2019.
